What brings you here?
Pick the one that sounds most like you. We'll explain what it means and how it usually gets resolved.
IRS letters have deadlines. Most are fixable if you act in time.
IRS notices range from simple balance reminders to final warnings before collection. Ignoring one lets penalties, interest and collection actions build, and a missed deadline can cost you options.
- Read the notice and explain what it means
- Respond accurately before the deadline
- Deal with the IRS directly from then on
- CP14: You have a balance due, including penalties and interest.
- CP2000: Your reported income doesn't match IRS records.
- LT11 / 1058: Final notice before the IRS levies your assets.
- CP504: The IRS intends to levy, starting with your state refund.
A wage garnishment can be stopped.
With a wage garnishment, the IRS takes part of every paycheck until the debt is paid or the levy is released. Only a small amount, based on your filing status and number of dependents, is protected, so it can leave you short on rent and bills.
- Contact the IRS to request a release
- Show hardship or set up a payment plan that ends the garnishment
- Resolve the debt underneath so it doesn't come back
A bank levy has a 21-day window. Act fast.
When the IRS levies a bank account, your bank freezes the money and holds it for 21 days before sending it to the IRS. That window is the best chance to get it released. The IRS can also levy other property, like vehicles, investments and refunds.
- Contact the IRS right away to request a release
- Show hardship or set up a plan that stops further levies
- Resolve the debt so it doesn't happen again
A late return is fixable, and the sooner you file, the less it costs.
The IRS adds a failure-to-file penalty of 5% of the unpaid tax for each month the return is late, up to 25%, plus interest and a smaller late-payment penalty on any balance. Filing now stops the biggest penalty from growing, and if you have a clean history, first-time penalty abatement may remove it.
- Prepare and file the late return
- Request penalty abatement if you qualify
- Set up a payment plan for any balance due
Filing is the first step, and it stops the biggest penalty.
Late filing adds 5% of the unpaid tax per month, up to 25%. The IRS may file a substitute return for you without your deductions or credits, and any refund expires three years after the original due date. No IRS relief program is available until every return is filed.
- Gather your old W-2s, 1099s and records
- Prepare and file every missing year
- Negotiate any balance that filing reveals
Owing doesn't mean paying it all at once.
Unpaid balances grow with a 0.5% monthly failure-to-pay penalty plus interest. Depending on your finances, the IRS may accept monthly payments, pause collection, or in some cases settle for less than the full amount.
- Review your full financial picture
- Find every program you actually qualify for
- Negotiate the one that leaves you best off
A lien is a claim, not a seizure. But it follows you.
A federal tax lien gives the IRS priority over your other creditors. It can damage your credit and stop you from selling, refinancing or borrowing against property until it is released or withdrawn.
- Request a lien release or withdrawal
- Set up a plan that qualifies for withdrawal
- Resolve the balance behind it
You may not be responsible for a spouse's mistakes.
If a joint return had errors, unreported income or unpaid tax that you didn't know about and didn't benefit from, Innocent Spouse Relief can remove your liability and keep collection away from your assets.
- Assess whether you meet the IRS criteria
- Build the evidence and file Form 8857
- Advocate for you through the IRS review

Two phases. You always know which one you're in.
First we figure out exactly where you stand. Then we fix it. Here is what you do and what we do along the way.
Understand it
Resolve it
IRS penalties and interest grow every month you wait.
Move the slider to see how fast penalties and interest add up on an unpaid balance. Getting help early is almost always cheaper.
Estimate only, not tax advice. Federal tax and penalties at the IRS's standard rates, before credits and state taxes. Unfiled-year tax uses 2025 brackets and assumes W-2 income had taxes withheld. Interest uses the IRS rate of 7% a year (October to December 2026), compounded daily; the rate resets every quarter.
The IRS has more options than most people know.
Part of our job is finding the one you actually qualify for, and telling you honestly if you don't.

How is CoreTax different from other tax companies?
We're upfront and real with you. Some companies make big promises they can't keep or charge hidden fees. We don't. We only take on cases we know we can help with, and we tell you exactly what to expect, including what each step costs, before it starts.
I got a letter from the IRS. Can you handle it?
Yes. We'll look at what they sent, explain what it means, and put together a plan to respond. Once you're working with us, we deal with the IRS directly so you don't have to.
Can you stop IRS collections?
Yes. We can help stop wage garnishments, bank levies and liens by negotiating with the IRS on your behalf. Depending on your situation, that may be a payment plan, Currently Not Collectible status or other relief.
Will you file my overdue tax returns?
Yes. If needed, we file overdue returns or amend existing ones, which brings you into compliance and protects you from further IRS action.
How much will working with you cost?
The consultation is free. Next is Discovery, our diagnostic, which has a flat fee: an Enrolled Agent pulls your IRS transcripts, reviews them with your income, assets, expenses and life events, and builds your resolution plan. Because every case is different, we price the resolution itself once Discovery is done, and you get that price with your plan before any resolution work starts.
Do I have to pay you in full?
No. The IRS already puts a financial burden on our clients, so we offer payment options. Our goal is to reduce your burden, not add to it.
What payment methods do you accept?
Debit and credit cards, ACH bank transfers, and customized plans. We'll find a method that fits your budget during the consultation.
Why not just pay the IRS directly?
Paying directly can mean missing reduced balances, penalty relief or better payment plans you qualify for. Our expertise often leads to a better long-term outcome.
Can you guarantee you'll wipe out my tax debt?
No honest company can, because the IRS has the final say. We can promise to push for the best outcome possible, be straight with you about what's realistic, and never put you in a worse position.
I was burned by another tax company. Why trust you?
We get it. We're honest from the start, we won't overpromise, and we won't surprise you with fees. Ask us anything during your free consultation.
What credentials does your team have?
Your case is handled by licensed Enrolled Agents, who are federally authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS. They review your transcripts, build your resolution plan and work your resolution program. Your first call is with one of our tax professionals, who walks you through your options.
Is the first consultation free?
Yes, completely free, with no financial commitment. It's a chance to discuss your situation and see what you pre-qualify for.
How long does it take?
Usually 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your case. If your spouse is involved, they should join the call too.
What happens after the call?
We outline a plan based on your situation. You decide how to proceed, with our support every step of the way.
